Our Camp Program
Session 1 will be held at Capital Christian Center Complex in Sacramento. Session 2 and the Instruction Plus Showcase will be held at Hagen Park in Rancho Cordova.
All students must be in proper uniform on the field. This includes Dusty Baker cap, shirt, baseball pants, socks, belt, baseball shoes (rubber cleats for Session 1, or optional metal cleats for Session 2 and Instruction Plus Showcase), and an athletic cup. Past uniform shirts and caps are not to be worn on the field. Only students and staff will be served lunch each day including Friday prior to the awards ceremonies.
Our Daily Activities on the field include group, team and individual training which will enhance each student’s ability to perform with greater skill and confidence.
Every student will be evaluated in each of the following areas with a grading system of 1 through 5. (5 is the highest grade possible). Evaluations are given by our professional staff during “Specialty Time," where each student goes to his position of choice, as well as performance during games. Each student who signs up to pitch is taught the fundamentals during the week in the bullpen area. They will also be evaluated in the bullpen.
We pay special attention to the six areas that
scouts and coaches look for in every player:
1. Attitude – The ability to be coached and be critiqued
2. Running - Overall quickness at position, timed on the bases
3. Throwing – Arm strength, proper throwing fundamentals,
position mechanics
4. Catching the Ball – Proper Mechanics, Glove Position,
Ball Transfer, Body Position
5. Hitting – Hitting with Consistency, Fundamentals,
Mechanics, Mental Approach
6. Hitting with Power – The ability to drive the ball
Daily Schedules include lunch every day at the field,
& plenty of water breaks.
Picture Day is usually on Mondays.
Session 1 and 2 awards ceremony is on Friday starting at 12:00 noon.
Session 3 awards ceremony is on Friday after the completion of baseball games.
Monday (Sessions 1, 2 & Instruction Plus Showcase)
• Staff Introduction
• Pictures with Dusty or another high profile ballplayer
• Calisthenics
• Fundamentals of throwing and catching the ball properly
• Pitching fundamentals demonstrated
• Teams throw and play catch, directed by coach
• Specialty Time- students go to primary defensive position
• Teams go through a pre-game warm up
• Coach controlled game
Tuesday (Sessions 1, 2 & Instruction Plus Showcase)
• Calisthenics
• Continue to work on throwing and playing catch properly
• Students evaluated on throwing fundamentals
• Defensive specialties
• Teams go to all hitting stations:
-Live hitting
-Various hitting stations to develop proper swing: timing, balance, bat speed
• Sliding, running for time
• Pitchers are called into the bullpen to be evaluated (two at a time)
Wednesday (Sessions 1 & 2 only); evening River Cats game
• Calisthenics
• Team throwing and catching
• Defensive specialties
• Games during the day (Students evaluated in the 6 criteria during games)
• Pitchers are called into the bullpen to be evaluated (two at a time)
Thursday (Sessions 1 & 2 only)
• Calisthenics
• Students are evaluated on their primary defensive position
• Position Mechanics (Agility, Speed, Aggressiveness Arm Strength and Range)
• 40 Yard Dash (Fastest person in camp)
• Games (Students are evaluated in the 6 criteria during games)
• Pitchers are called into the bullpen to be evaluated (two at a time)
